On July 11, 2024, at approximately 1:15 PM, Sub-Inspector Subrata Chatterjee, while conducting routine mobile patrol duties, observed unusual behavior by an individual in Uttar Char Majhardiar. Prompted by his instincts, SI Chatterjee initiated a raid that led to the arrest of 19-year-old Sahin Sk, son of Piyarul Sk, from the same locality. During the operation, authorities discovered a staggering 132 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup in Sahin’s possession. This particular cough syrup has been identified as a substance commonly misused for its psychoactive effects, prompting significant concern among local law enforcement regarding rising rates of substance abuse in the area. Following the arrest, a case was filed at Raninagar Police Station under case number 679/24 dated July 11, 2024, citing violations under sections 21 (c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Sahin is scheduled to be presented in court tomorrow, with police expressing intentions for a seven-day custody request to conduct further investigations. This incident brings to light the pressing issue of drug trafficking in Murshidabad, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures by law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes effectively. Community stakeholders are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to aid in safeguarding public health and safety.
