On June 15, 2025, at approximately 14:30 hours, Islampur Police successfully apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the illegal arms trade. The arrest took place at the Islampur Bus Stand, where officers acting on credible information detained Ujjawal Molla, a 27-year-old resident of Puratan Sahebrampur, Jalangi, Murshidabad.During a thorough search, police discovered two country-made single-barrel 12 bore firearms, measuring 32 inches in length, along with one live 12 bore round of ammunition in Molla’s possession. This discovery has raised serious concerns about the proliferation of illegal weapons and their potential use in criminal activities.Authorities promptly registered a case against Molla under specific sections of the law at Islampur Police Station, documented as Case No. 367/25 dated June 15, 2025. Law enforcement officials are expected to seek a seven-day custody order for the accused from the Lalbagh Assistant Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) to facilitate further investigation.This incident highlights the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement to tackle the escalating issue of illegal arms trafficking, particularly in the context of rising gun violence across the region.
