On the evening of June 17, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, a routine patrol by Berhampore Police Station led to the interception of a suspicious Mahindra XUV without a number plate at Fatehpur Bypass More along National Highway 12. Acting on credible intelligence provided by the Special Operations Group (SOG), officers conducted a detailed search of the vehicle, resulting in the seizure of an astonishing 152 kilograms of contraband ganja (cannabis).The investigation has identified the two individuals apprehended during this operation as Jahingir Alam, 28, and Enamul Haque, 32, both residents of Dinhata in Cooch Behar. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the duo acquired the illegal substance from their hometown before embarking on their journey through Berhampore.Authorities have indicated that a specific case will be registered under applicable sections of the law, signaling a robust approach to curbing drug-related offenses in the region. The arrested suspects are scheduled to be presented in court tomorrow, where a request for a 10-day police custody remand will be made to facilitate further investigation.This incident underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and maintain public safety.
