Lucknow, May 12, 2025 – The K.D. Singh Babu Indoor Stadium came alive as the 13th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship unfolded from May 9-12, drawing an impressive crowd and 800 participants from 27 states and 7 Union Territories, along with representatives from 5 Para Force units. The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, lending significant visibility to this traditional martial art.West Bengal stood out in the competition, with its team of 14 males and 4 females showcasing exceptional skill and determination. Raja Das emerged as a star athlete, clinching a gold medal in his category, while teammates Palash Chatterjee, Vishwakarma Mahto, Sobhan Das, and Yash Gupta added to the tally with three bronze medals.The West Bengal Pencak Silat team is coached by Rahul Yadav and operates under the guidance of Sri Tapan Ghosh, President of the Pencak Silat Sports Association Bengal. Their achievements not only reflect personal excellence but also highlight the growing prominence of Pencak Silat in the region.In an exciting development, athletes Raja Das, Ishani Ghosh, and Sujan Majhi have qualified for the inaugural Khelo India Beach Game 2025 to be held in Diu, marking another significant milestone for West Bengal’s sporting community.This year’s championship was not just a competition but a celebration of culture, dedication, and the spirit of sportsmanship, ensuring that Pencak Silat continues to thrive in India. The closing ceremony was attended by the Sports Minister and Transport Minister of UP, emphasizing the government’s support for promoting martial arts in the region.
