Police Crack Down on Illegal Gambling in Murshidabad

In a significant law enforcement operation yesterday, the Murshidabad Police took decisive action against illegal gambling activities occurring in a mango garden located at the rear of Chunakhali Primary School. Acting on credible source information, the police team swiftly raided the area, leading to the arrest of three individuals identified as Subal Das (47), Suman Ghosh (32), and Suman Bedia (26). During the raid, officers recovered a substantial amount of cash totaling Rs. 14,160, which was reportedly being used as board money for the gambling activities. Additionally, police seized three sets of playing cards, a bidi, a lighter, a black polyethylene sheet, and a Bajaj Platina motorcycle with the registration number WB-58 AL/7293 from the suspects. The arrested individuals are residents of Hatinagar and Chunakhali Sarerdhar in the Murshidabad district. Following their apprehension, a case has been registered under Murshidabad PS Case No. 450/25 dated 15.05.2025, with appropriate sections of law being invoked against the suspects. The Murshidabad Police have emphasized their ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities within the community, ensuring that such operations will continue to maintain public safety and uphold the law. Authorities are urging local residents to report any suspicious activities to help further curtail illicit gambling and other unlawful practices in the area.
