On the night of April 11, 2024, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Basudeb Ghosh, acting on credible intelligence, led a team to BSF Road near Kalimandir in Harudanga village, Raninagar police station, Murshidabad district. The operation resulted in the apprehension of four suspects: three Bangladeshi nationals—Jamshed Ali (27), son of Ayushuddin; Md Babu (27), son of Md Amir Hossain; and Akmal Hossain (26), son of Soriful Islam—all hailing from Chapai Nababganj, Bangladesh—and one Indian national, Soriful Islam alias Sekh (51), son of Sammohammad Sk from Shibnagar in Raninagar.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the Bangladeshi suspects had crossed the India-Bangladesh border stealthily without valid passports or visas. Their entry into India appears to have been facilitated by Soriful Islam, raising concerns about a potential smuggling network operating in the area.
The Raninagar Police have initiated an official case (No. 207/25 dated April 12, 2024) under sections 13 and 14(A)(C) of the relevant laws, aimed at addressing cross-border illegal activities. The apprehended individuals have been presented before the Lalbagh Court, with a request for a five-day police custody remand to facilitate further investigation and apprehend other associates involved in this illicit operation.
This incident highlights the persistent issues of border security and illegal immigration, prompting local authorities to enhance surveillance and collaboration with border patrol agencies. The community is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
